The Autobiography of Hudson Taylor Missionary to China Illustrated eBook J Hudson Taylor
As a missionary I was greatly encouraged by reading The Autobiography of Hudson Taylor: Missionary to China. While unsure if I agree with Hudson Taylor on all things, it is undeniable that he gave his life to proclaim Christ to the Chinese.Hudson Taylor left for China as a young, 21 year old missionary in September of 1853. He was a radical man who believed that God would always provide and tells of many times when just at the last minute God would come through. He believed most missionaries were too worldly and took measures to live as simply as possible.
"I am more than ever convinced that if we were to take the directions of our Master and the assurances He gave to His first disciples more fully as our guide, we should find them to be just as suited to our times as as to those in which they were originally given."
He took on dressing as the Chinese men to better assimilate into the culture and become more accepted, a move that also wasn't without its critics. He also studied Mandarin to be able to communicate in the native tongue of the people he worked among. After becoming ill and having to return to England for a time, Taylor gained a vision for a new mission focused on evangelizing inland China. Upon returning the China Inland Mission was born.
This autobiography is the account of some of Hudson Taylor's experiences, the joys and sorrows, the obstacles and triumphs, the prayers and miracles, that led to the formation of China Inland Mission.

The Autobiography of Hudson Taylor Missionary to China Illustrated eBook J Hudson Taylor Reviews
What a dedicated man-- dedicated to prove that all he needed and all his hundreds of orphans needed could be attained by prayer to the God of the Bible. Very interesting!
The life of Hudson Taylor is
a life lived as one totally committed to
Christ. Amazing example of a life sold out for Christ and set for all Christians.
Millions of today's Chinese Cristian's can trace their spiritual roots directly back to the missionary work of Hudson Taylor in the 1800s.
Such an encouraging testimony! This is an older book and the language is a bit dense. It's not exactly a page-turner, but it is relatively short and a great encouragement to the Christian seeking to trust and rely on God. Hudson Taylor could be described as a "faith junkie" always seeking to put himself in a position where faith in God was his only hope. Wonderful to see God's work in his life!
Mr. Taylor explains early that the book is taken from notes for addresses given in China, and it reads that way. It doesn't have a plot like most books, and because Mr.Taylor is English and because it describes happenings in the 1800's, some of the wording seems odd or even archaic. But it's a good book anyway. It describes many of Mr. Taylor's experiences as a missionary in China, including some dangerous encounters. I enjoyed the book and give it four stars. David Carlyle, "Billy Thomas Forever Fearless."
I loved reading this book. I was moved to a greater place of trust in God by reading about how the Lord provided so consistently for Taylor. My evangelistic zeal was also stirred up by Taylor's passion to see the lost meet the Savior.
I am only 82-85% finished with this book but it is incredibly encouraging and worth your time. The struggles Hudson Taylor went through to deliver the gospel message to the Chinese is awe-inspiring to say the least. Makes me wonder why I am not more adamant about getting out in my local community. He left the comforts of home to reach countless souls and gave up so many conveniences (and even basic necessities) in order to see souls saved... all while facing one adversity after another. A must read in my opinion.
I liked it much better than the famous "Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secrets" because it was in his own words. He was very open about his personal wrestling with God and how God helped him through the times of unbelief to come to a surrender and trust in God's sovereign control of his life.
